It’s true — you can’t keep a good man down! After spending 10 days in the hospital earlier this month, waiting for and recovering from open heart surgery, Phil Tanner has made phenomonal progress and is expected to return to the stage in time for the 2017 Fall Tour opener on Friday, September 8th in Canton, just weeks after the major surgery.
Tanner has been making big strides in his recovery from surgery, even back practicing with the band just TWO WEEKS after the seven-bypass operation. He’s been cleared by doctors to resume some normal activities and has been walking daily, back to building fiddles, and has even joined in on a few local jam sessions recently, too.
He is expected to undergo some physical therapy soon to help accelerate his recovery, but plans to be at the shows in Canton on September 8th and 9th. Phil is very much ready to hit the stage again and says he feels “great”. The Skillet Lickers are hoping to pack the theater on September 8th and 9th to welcome Phil back to the stage. Tickets for the show are just $15 and can be purchased now by calling the Canton Box Office at 770-704-0755. Shows begin at 7:30pm each night and more info on the show can be found here.
This won’t be all, though! Phil will also be partaking in a special proclamation presentation at the Gwinnett County Courthouse on his birthday, September 19th, as the county recognizes the Skillet Lickers’ on their induction into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame, which took place in June. The event was originally scheduled to take place in early August, but was postponed due to his sudden surgery.
