The Skillet Lickers concluded their fall tour and 2016 touring schedule on Saturday at “Christmas in Dacula”. The fall tour alone featured approximately 25 events from August through December. The iconic band performed between 40-50 shows throughout the duration of 2016.
2016 was the 90th year in the books for the Skillet Lickers, originally formed in 1926 by the legendary Gid Tanner. Russ Tanner, Gid’s great-grandson and current band leader, called 2016 a “success” and took the time to thank all of the many fans who came out to support the group over the past year. “Ninety years is obviously a remarkable feat, but this band would never have existed this long – 4 generations long – without the support of you. We’d like to thank all of our great fans near and far who joined us all over the state this year… from Blairsville to Milledgeville to Atlanta.”
The Skillet Lickers enjoyed many highlights throughout the year, from performing for the University of Georgia to bringing back their Music Night series in Dacula to the hit production Smoke on the Mountain and to performing their musical narration Country Music Down Yonder in Canton and Cumming to much acclaim.
While this year was a great one for the Skillet Lickers, the band is already preparing for what’s sure to be an exciting 2017! The band expects to be back on the road beginning in February 2017, with tour announcements forthcoming. In the meantime, the band will be relaxing and enjoying the holidays with family and friends.
